Researchers Advocate for Transformative Health Policy Addressing Global Power Inequality

In a collaborative effort led by Hannah Eger from the School of Public Health at Bielefeld University, Germany, researchers and activists worldwide, including The George Institute for Global Health in India, have called for a transformative health policy to address existing power structures hindering health equity. The proposed policy embraces intersectional feminist approaches to reshape health policies, focusing on inclusivity and responsiveness to marginalized communities.

The envisioned policy aims for a holistic and inclusive framework, incorporating principles that prioritize the most marginalized individuals and communities. It seeks to bring about a transformation in health systems, enhancing their resilience and preparedness for health risks. The proposed framework integrates elements such as power regimes, intersectionality, and knowledge paradigms to promote genuine health equity and reproductive justice for all individuals.

The researchers emphasize the need for a set of fundamental guiding principles applicable globally, encompassing human rights, equality, democracy, and decoloniality. This policy is envisioned as a crucial step towards addressing the deep-seated power inequalities that impact health outcomes on a global scale.
