Toyota is gearing up to introduce the Toyota Taisor, a crossover SUV based on the Maruti Fronx, into the Indian market. Confirmed for launch on April 3, the Taisor promises a distinctive design while offering the same engine options and features as its Maruti counterpart. Here’s a sneak peek at what the Taisor has in store for Indian consumers.
Engine Options and Performance
Aligned with the Maruti Fronx, the Toyota Taisor will be equipped with two engine choices. The lineup includes a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine generating 90 PS and 113 Nm torque, available with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT. Additionally, it will feature a 1-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 100 PS and 148 Nm torque, paired with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. This could mark Toyota’s entry into the mass-market turbo-petrol segment in India.
Features and Technology
Mirroring the Fronx’s offerings, the Taisor will boast a plethora of features. Highlights include a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay support, a heads-up display, automatic climate control, and cruise control. Safety features will encompass up to 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program (ESP), hill hold assist, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a 360-degree camera.
Distinctive Design and Interior
While sharing features with the Fronx, the Taisor will distinguish itself through its design and cabin aesthetics. Expect a lighter interior color scheme, setting it apart from the Fronx’s black and burgundy theme. The cabin will showcase Toyota’s badge, offering a touch of exclusivity.
Price and Competition
Anticipated to be priced between Rs 8 lakh and Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom), the Taisor may command a slight premium over its Maruti-branded counterpart. Positioned in the sub-4m SUV segment, it will compete against rivals such as the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, and Mahindra XUV300.
As Toyota steps into the subcompact SUV arena with the Taisor, Indian consumers can expect a blend of reliability, performance, and advanced features, making it a compelling option in its segment.
