TMC Worker Detained for Allegedly Molesting Minor in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali

West Bengal: A TMC worker has been detained for allegedly molesting a minor girl in the Sandeshkhali area, police reported. The incident has heightened tensions in this region, which is already sensitive due to past allegations of sexual abuse and land grab.

Incident Details

According to a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother, the accused entered their house on Friday night and molested the minor. The girl, a Class 8 student, managed to escape and alerted others by shouting for help. Family members and neighbors quickly responded to her cries, police said.

Background of the Region

The riverine Sandeshkhali area, located on the borders of the Sundarbans, about 100 km from Kolkata, had experienced significant unrest in February. Protests erupted over allegations of sexual abuse and land grab against TMC leader Shajahan Sheikh and his supporters, who have since been arrested.

Police Action

An officer from Basirhat Police District stated that the accused, who is around 20 years old, is currently being questioned. A medical examination has been conducted on the girl to gather further evidence.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident to ensure justice for the victim and maintain order in the community.
