Tata Motors Introduces Tiago and Tigor iCNG AMT Models with Twin-Cylinder Technology

Tata Motors unveils the latest additions to its lineup, the Tiago and Tigor iCNG AMT models, boasting Tata’s innovative twin-cylinder technology. Developed in-house, this groundbreaking design features two individual cylinders strategically placed beneath the luggage areas of both vehicles, ensuring ample boot space without compromising on performance. Notably, these newly launched models also come equipped with the convenience of an automated manual transmission (AMT), enhancing driving comfort and ease of operation.

Under the hood, both the Tiago and Tigor iCNG AMT models are powered by a 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder petrol engine, delivering a maximum power output of 72 BHP at 6,000 rpm and 95 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm in CNG mode. Paired with a 5-speed AMT gearbox, these vehicles offer seamless power delivery and efficient performance on the road. Additionally, a standard 5-speed manual gearbox option is available for drivers seeking a more traditional driving experience.

Among the standout features of these new iCNG models is the inclusion of a single Advanced ECU, ensuring smooth transitions between petrol and CNG modes, as well as direct start capability in CNG mode. Safety enhancements include a micro switch to prevent the car from starting during refueling, Thermal incident protection that cuts off CNG supply in case of a thermal incident, and a leak detection feature that swiftly switches from CNG to petrol mode in the event of a gas leak.

Amit Kamat, Chief Commercial Officer at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., expressed excitement about the launch, emphasizing Tata Motors’ commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction. He highlighted the growing acceptance of CNG vehicles and Tata Motors’ significant contributions to the segment, including the introduction of twin-cylinder technology and high-end feature choices. With over 1.3 lakh CNG vehicles sold in the past 24 months, the launch of the Tiago and Tigor iCNG in AMT represents another milestone, marking India’s first AMT CNG cars and reaffirming Tata Motors’ position as a leader in the automotive industry.
