Controversy Erupts Over Congress Leader’s Remarks Against Hema Malini, BJP Calls for Action

The BJP criticized Surjewala’s remarks as disrespectful towards women, with BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi calling it a “new low” for the Congress. The NCW has urged the Election Commission to take immediate action against Surjewala, while the Haryana State Commission for Women issued a notice asking for clarification from the Congress leader.

In response, Surjewala defended his remarks, accusing the BJP of distorting facts and launching personal attacks. He clarified that his comments were meant to show respect for Hema Malini as the daughter-in-law of Dharmendra. Surjewala questioned the BJP’s track record on women’s issues and highlighted instances of alleged misogyny within the party.

Hema Malini, while filing her nomination papers in Mathura, commented on the issue, stating that only those who have achieved something in life are targeted. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini also condemned Surjewala’s remarks, emphasizing the need to respect women in politics.

Punjab BJP leader Jai Inder Kaur and Union Minister Smriti Irani also criticized Surjewala’s remarks, calling them sexist and derogatory. Irani accused the Congress of promoting misogyny in politics, allegedly under the directives of the Gandhi family.
