Sunrisers Hyderabad delivered a remarkable performance in Match 35 of the 2024 Indian Premier League, defeating Delhi Capitals by 67 runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The power-hitting spectacle by SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma set a new IPL record for the most runs in a powerplay, accumulating 125 without losing a wicket in the first six overs. Head’s explosive 89-run innings propelled him to second place in the IPL’s Orange Cap standings for the most runs this season.

In a high-scoring encounter that saw a combined total of 466 runs, Travis Head’s stellar performance stood out. With his 89-run innings, Head now has 324 runs in just six matches, with an astonishing strike rate of 216. This high-scoring prowess places him second in the Orange Cap list, just behind Virat Kohli, who leads with 361 runs in eight matches. The third spot is held by Riyan Parag of Rajasthan Royals, who has 318 runs to his credit.

Mumbai Indians’ Rohit Sharma ranks fourth with 297 runs, while KL Rahul, captain of Lucknow Super Giants, holds the fifth spot with 286 runs. Head’s remarkable strike rate gives him an edge in the Orange Cap standings, showcasing his consistent ability to score rapidly.

As the IPL season progresses, the Orange Cap race remains intense. Virat Kohli, the current holder, will seek to extend his lead during the upcoming double-header on Sunday, as Royal Challengers Bengaluru aim to end their five-match losing streak against Kolkata Knight Riders. Kolkata’s Sunil Narine, currently sixth in the Orange Cap standings with 276 runs, is another player to watch.

In the second match of the day, Punjab Kings face Gujarat Titans, with the latter’s captain, Shubman Gill, ranking eighth with 263 runs. These upcoming matches promise more exciting action and could further shake up the Orange Cap leaderboard as players compete for the prestigious title of top run-scorer in the IPL.
