Samajwadi Party and Congress Finalize Seat Distribution Agreement for Uttar Pradesh Polls

In a significant development, Samajwadi Party (SP) general secretary Ram Gopal Yadav announced on Friday that the party has reached a conclusive agreement with the Congress regarding seat distribution for the upcoming parliamentary polls in Uttar Pradesh. Yadav, a five-time Rajya Sabha member, revealed that the SP would soon declare additional candidates for the polls scheduled in April-May this year.

“We announced candidates for 16 Lok Sabha seats. We will declare more seats in a couple of days. The Congress and the SP have reached a final agreement in Uttar Pradesh,” stated Mr. Yadav. The alliance aims to contest all 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state, with the SP offering 11 seats to the Congress.

SP spokesperson Sunil Singh Yadav ‘Sajan’ emphasized the strength of the alliance, stating, “Our alliance with the Congress is final… The INDIA alliance will make sure that in U.P., the BJP will get defeated.”

On January 30, the SP had already unveiled 16 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. Dimple Yadav, the sitting Lok Sabha member from Mainpuri, is set to contest from the same seat. Other candidates announced include Devesh Shakya, Naval Kishore Shakya, Ravidas Mehrotra, Utkarsh Verma, Rajaram Pal, Anand Bhadauria, Anu Tandon, Shivshankar Singh Patel, Awadhesh Prasad, Ramprasad Chaudhary, Kajal Nishad, Akshay Yadav, Dharmendra Yadav, Lalji Verma, and Shafiqur Rahman Barq, covering various constituencies across the state. The upcoming polls in Uttar Pradesh are expected to witness a fierce political contest with the INDIA alliance seeking to challenge the BJP’s dominance in the region.
