Singapore Airlines Investigates After Severe Turbulence Causes Passenger Death and Over 100 Injuries
Singaporean investigators are examining a cockpit voice recorder and a flight data recorder following a tragic incident in which one passenger died and more than 100 were injured due to severe turbulence on a Singapore Airlines plane. This announcement was made by the country’s transport minister on Friday.
Passengers and crew aboard flight SQ321 from London to Singapore experienced a harrowing ordeal on Tuesday when they were violently thrown around the cabin due to severe turbulence. The incident resulted in skull, brain, and spine injuries among passengers and crew.
The flight, which had 211 passengers and 18 crew members on board, was forced to make an emergency landing in Bangkok. As of now, at least 48 individuals are still receiving treatment in hospitals.
The cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder, crucial for understanding the events leading up to the turbulence, are currently being analyzed by investigators. The transport minister emphasized that this analysis is vital for determining the causes and ensuring measures are taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The airline has expressed its condolences and support for the affected passengers and their families, committing to cooperate fully with the investigation.
This incident has raised concerns about flight safety and the preparedness of airlines to handle severe turbulence, prompting calls for more stringent safety protocols and passenger awareness.
