In a tragic incident in the Rai industrial area, an evening fire resulted in injuries to 40-45 individuals, most of whom were factory workers. According to police reports, five people sustained serious burn injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Rai SHO Umesh Kumar informed PTI, “40-45 people, most of them workers, have suffered injuries. The factory manufactures rubber belts.” The exact cause of the fire remains undetermined, though authorities are investigating whether a boiler explosion might have been involved.
This incident is part of a troubling pattern of fires linked to the severe heatwave conditions affecting the region. Earlier in the day, a fire erupted at a godown near Delhi’s Mansarovar Park Metro Station around 7 PM. Additionally, two commercial buildings caught fire in Srinagar’s Rajbagh area, where firefighters swiftly contained the blaze.
Delhi is experiencing unprecedented heat, exacerbating the risk of such fires. The city’s Safdarjung observatory recorded a high of 45.8 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, five degrees above the seasonal average. On the city’s outskirts, temperatures soared even higher: Mungeshpur and Narela reached 49.9 degrees Celsius, while Najafgarh hit 49.8 degrees. Pitampura and Pusa also recorded temperatures of 48.5 degrees Celsius.
The combination of extreme heat and subsequent fire incidents underscores the urgent need for safety measures and emergency preparedness in affected areas. Authorities are urging residents and businesses to remain vigilant and take precautions to mitigate fire risks during this intense heatwave.
