Pune Tragedy: Father and Bar Owners Arrested After Teen’s Fatal Car Crash

Pune: The father of a 17-year-old boy has been arrested following a fatal car accident that claimed the lives of two individuals in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area. Additionally, the owners of bars where the minor was served alcohol prior to the incident have also been detained by the authorities.

The tragic accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning. According to police reports, a luxury Porsche, driven by the teenager, collided with a motorcycle, instantly killing Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta. CCTV footage of the crash showed the car speeding at approximately 200 kmph down a narrow lane.

The investigation has been handed over to the crime branch of Pune Police. Charges have been filed against the boy’s father under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act, which address willful neglect of a child and providing intoxicating substances to a minor, respectively. These charges come as the police await further direction from the sessions court.

Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both IT engineers, were returning from a social gathering when their motorcycle was struck by the speeding Porsche at around 2:15 am. The impact was so severe that both victims died on the spot.

Pune Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar stated that the teenager had been celebrating his class 12 exam results. This incident has prompted a significant public outcry, highlighting issues of parental responsibility and the need for stringent enforcement of laws against underage drinking and reckless driving.

The arrested bar owners are facing charges for serving alcohol to a minor, which is in clear violation of legal regulations. This incident has intensified calls for stricter law enforcement to prevent such tragedies and ensure road safety.

The families of the victims are demanding justice and accountability, urging authorities to implement stronger measures to avert similar incidents in the future. The community is left grappling with the loss and the urgent need for reforms to protect innocent lives on the road.
