In a tragic turn of events, the Pune Police informed a local court that the father of the 17-year-old boy involved in a fatal car accident had instructed his driver to hand over the keys of his Porsche Taycan to his son whenever he requested. The teenager, driving without a license, fatally struck two techies with the car on Sunday, sparking outrage and legal action.
Contradicting claims emerged during the court proceedings, with the father’s lawyer asserting that the car was entrusted to the driver, not the teenager. Despite this, the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) on Wednesday revoked the teenager’s bail and ordered his detention in a remand home for 14 days.
The Pune Police have filed a review petition before the JJB, advocating for the teenager to be tried as an adult due to the severity of the incident. Moreover, the father of the minor has been arrested for permitting his son to drive without a license and has been remanded to police custody until May 24.
The accident, allegedly involving a drunk driver, has led to further arrests, with two bar owners detained for serving alcohol to the underage driver, who reportedly spent a significant amount at their establishments before the incident. The tragic collision claimed the lives of two young IT professionals, Ashwini Koshta and Aneesh Awadhia, both hailing from Madhya Pradesh.
Savitha Awadhiya, Aneesh Awadhiya’s mother, expressed her anguish, equating the accident to murder and demanding justice for her son. She criticized the efforts to shield the teenager due to his family’s financial status, urging the Maharashtra government to ensure accountability and serve justice.
As the legal proceedings unfold and emotions run high, the incident underscores the importance of enforcing road safety regulations and holding individuals accountable for their actions, regardless of their social standing.
