In a shocking development, Pune’s crime branch has arrested two doctors and a mortuary staffer at Sassoon General Hospital for allegedly switching the blood sample of a teen involved in a fatal accident. The doctors involved are Dr. Ajay Taware, head of the forensic sciences department, and Dr. Shrihari Halnor, a casualty medical officer.

According to police reports, the trio, including the staffer from the mortuary, manipulated the blood sample of the 17-year-old underage driver following a fatal accident on May 19. The incident involved the teen crashing a Porsche Taycan into a motorcycle, resulting in the death of two tech professionals.

The manipulation of the blood sample was allegedly done at the request of the underage driver’s father, who is a city builder. The father reportedly orchestrated the switch through a middleman to alter the report and avoid confirming if his son was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

This arrest highlights serious allegations of corruption and manipulation within the hospital’s forensic sciences department, raising concerns about the integrity of forensic investigations in such critical cases. The investigation is ongoing as authorities delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding this egregious breach of trust.

The incident has sparked outrage and calls for stringent action against those involved in the manipulation of forensic evidence, particularly in cases as sensitive and tragic as this fatal accident.
