Prime Minister Modi Unveils ₹17,500 Crore Development Projects in Assam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a slew of development projects totaling ₹17,500 crore in Assam on March 9, aimed at bolstering various sectors including health, oil and gas, railway, and housing. The unveiling took place at a ceremony held in Jorhat, marking a significant investment in the state’s infrastructure and welfare initiatives.

Under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North Eastern Region (PM-DevINE) scheme, Mr. Modi laid the foundation stone for several projects, including a Medical College and Hospital in Sivasagar and a Hemato-Lymphoid Centre in Guwahati. These initiatives are poised to enhance healthcare facilities and address critical medical needs in the region.

Additionally, the Prime Minister inaugurated the expansion projects for the Digboi Refinery and Guwahati Refinery, aimed at increasing their capacity to meet growing energy demands. The ceremony also witnessed the inauguration of a new medical college and hospital in Tinsukia, along with the unveiling of the 718-km-long Barauni-Guwahati Pipeline, a vital infrastructure project built at a cost of approximately ₹3,992 crore.

Prime Minister Modi’s announcement underscores the government’s commitment to fostering comprehensive development in Assam and advancing key sectors critical for the state’s progress and prosperity.
