Gangster-turned-Politician Mukhtar Ansari Alleges Poisoning in Banda Jail, Hospitalized in Serious Condition

Gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari has made shocking allegations of being poisoned while incarcerated in Banda jail, as reported by his brother, Afzal Ansari, on Tuesday. Afzal Ansari, a Member of Parliament from Ghazipur, stated that Mukhtar Ansari claimed to have been administered poisonous substances in his food for the second time, resulting in his deteriorating health.

“Mukhtar said that he was given a poisonous substance in his food in jail. This is the second time this has happened. Around 40 days ago, he was also poisoned. Recently, on March 19 or March 22, he was again given poison, leading to his current critical condition,” Afzal Ansari conveyed, as quoted by PTI. He further mentioned that his brother is currently in the intensive care unit (ICU) and remains conscious.

Responding to Mukhtar Ansari’s health crisis, the Uttar Pradesh prison department issued a statement detailing the events leading to his hospitalization. According to the statement, Mukhtar Ansari experienced a sudden deterioration in his health, followed by a fall in the night. He was promptly treated by the jail doctor and subsequently referred to the medical college, where he was admitted under police protection for further treatment.

Confirming Mukhtar Ansari’s admission, the Banda Medical College released a medical bulletin stating that he complained of abdominal pain upon arrival at 3:55 am. The bulletin assured that conservative treatment has been initiated, and his condition is currently stable.

Mukhtar Ansari, aged 60, has been incarcerated in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh since 2005, with over 60 criminal cases pending against him. Despite being sentenced in eight cases since September 2022 by various courts in Uttar Pradesh, he remained lodged in Banda jail. His inclusion in the list of 66 gangsters issued by the Uttar Pradesh Police last year raised concerns among his family members, who feared for his safety, suspecting the possibility of a fake encounter.
