Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated his government’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of farmers on February 22, emphasizing a “historic” increase in sugarcane prices as part of these efforts. Through a series of posts on social media platform X, he highlighted key decisions taken by the Union Cabinet on February 21, particularly the significant hike in the minimum price that mills are mandated to pay sugarcane growers for the 2024-25 season, starting October.
In response to the Cabinet’s decision, PM Modi stated that the ₹25 increase, bringing the minimum price to ₹340 per quintal, will benefit crores of sugarcane farmers. The official statement following the decision emphasized that the new Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) aims to ensure the prosperity of sugarcane farmers. Despite already paying the highest sugarcane prices globally, the government aims to provide the world’s cheapest sugar to domestic consumers.
PM Modi also addressed other decisions taken by the Cabinet, particularly in relation to the National Livestock Mission. He highlighted the potential for exciting opportunities for entrepreneurs, coupled with substantial boosts in fodder production and breed conservation, resulting from the steps taken by the government. This announcement underscores the administration’s holistic approach to agricultural welfare and development, seeking to benefit farmers across various sectors.
