In a fiery address on March 6, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lambasted the Trinamool Congress, asserting that the reverberations of the “storm of Sandeshkhali” would echo across West Bengal. He declared that ‘Nari Shakti’ (woman power) would play a pivotal role in ousting the ruling party in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Addressing a rally in Barasat, the headquarters of North 24 Parganas district, where Sandeshkhali is located, Mr. Modi expressed his deep concern over the alleged sexual atrocities against women and land grabbing in the area, terming it a “matter of shame.”
TMC leader Shahjahan Sheikh and his associates marred the riverine island of Sandeshkhali, with accusations of sexual crimes and land seizures against them.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the TMC government prioritized appeasement politics over the safety of women in the state, accusing them of rightly incensing the women of Bengal and the country. He pledged that the storm of Sandeshkhali would spread across West Bengal, dismantling the TMC’s influence.
Highlighting the historical significance of West Bengal as a symbol of women’s empowerment, PM Modi lamented the “grave atrocities” against women under the TMC rule. He criticized the state government for its perceived indifference to the sorrows of women.
Accusing the TMC of shielding criminals, Modi asserted that despite legal interventions, the state authorities resisted the arrest of those responsible for the Sandeshkhali incidents. He pointed out that the TMC’s efforts to protect the wrongdoers faced setbacks in both the high court and the Supreme Court.
As the political landscape intensifies in West Bengal, the Prime Minister’s impassioned speech signals a renewed focus on issues related to women’s safety and empowerment in the state.
