Over 6,500 Polling Personnel, 3,000 Policemen Deployed for Mizoram Lok Sabha Polls

Preparations for upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Mizoram in full swing. Over 6,500 polling personnel, 3,000 policemen, and 12 companies of Central Armed Police Forces to be deployed, says senior election official.

Scheduled for Friday, the polling for the lone Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram is set to witness robust security measures and logistical arrangements to ensure smooth conduct.

Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer, Madhup Vyas, confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been finalized, including the commissioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). He stated that the polling personnel have undergone comprehensive training, with final sessions scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.

The deployment of polling personnel to the 168 polling stations will commence on Wednesday, with additional personnel dispatched on Thursday to ensure adequate coverage.

Vyas outlined the security arrangements, detailing the deployment of 12 companies of Central Armed Police Forces, comprising units from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), and Border Security Force (BSF), alongside over 3,000 local policemen.

Across the state, a total of 1,276 polling stations and four auxiliary polling stations have been established, with a focus on rural and urban areas. Special attention is given to vulnerable and critical polling stations, particularly those located along inter-state and international borders.

With an electorate of over 8.56 lakh, including approximately 4.4 lakh women voters, the polls will witness participation from diverse segments of the population.

Six candidates, representing various political parties and independents, are vying for the lone Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram. The competition includes nominees from the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), opposition Mizo National Front (MNF), Congress, BJP, People’s Conference party, and an independent candidate.

The results of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, where the MNF emerged victorious, set the stage for an engaging electoral contest, with candidates from multiple parties seeking to secure the mandate of the people of Mizoram.
