Microsoft has appointed long-time company veteran Pavan Davuluri to lead its Windows operating system and Surface devices teams, following the departure of former leader Panos Panay to Amazon last fall.
Davuluri, who has been with Microsoft since 2001 and served as corporate vice president for nearly three years, will now take on additional responsibilities crucial to Microsoft’s core offerings. Windows continues to play a critical role for Microsoft, influencing client decisions on cloud infrastructure for IT projects, especially amid growing interest in generative artificial intelligence.
This promotion for Davuluri comes shortly after Microsoft announced the hiring of former DeepMind co-founder Mustafa Suleyman to lead a new organization focused on Microsoft AI. Mikhail Parakhin, CEO of advertising and web services, and his unit, including the Bing search engine and Edge browser teams, will now be integrated into Microsoft AI.
As part of these changes, Parakhin will explore new roles within the company under the leadership of Kevin Scott, Microsoft’s technology chief. Davuluri expressed his pride in the team’s recent achievements, including the launch of Surface PCs featuring a Copilot button for streamlined access to Windows’ chatbot functionality.
The appointment of Davuluri underscores Microsoft’s commitment to innovation and leadership continuity, as the company navigates evolving technologies and market dynamics in the tech industry.
