On Monday, at Mobile World Congress 2024 (MWC), MediaTek unveiled its latest addition to the 5G RedCap portfolio, the MediaTek T300 platform, specifically designed for Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Positioned as a 5G RedCap RF-system-on-chip (SoC), the T300 integrates MediaTek’s M60 modem, adhering to the 3GPP Release-17 standard for significant generational advantages over existing 4G IoT solutions.
The T300 features a streamlined and reliable antenna design with integrated RF, aiming to extend the battery life of 5G devices while reducing development costs and time. MediaTek claims that the M60 modem contributes to a reduction in power consumption, up to 60% compared to LTE Cat-4 alternatives and up to 70% compared to existing 5G eMMB solutions.
The company asserts that this breakthrough in energy efficiency is particularly beneficial for large-scale deployments in sectors such as Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), mobile markets, security, logistics, and IoT edge devices. The MediaTek T300 platform is poised to provide enhanced performance and energy sustainability for a variety of 5G IoT applications.
