Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading car manufacturer, has inaugurated a new assembly line at its Manesar plant, bolstering its production capabilities. With a capacity to manufacture 1 lakh units annually, this addition enhances the plant’s overall manufacturing capacity to 9 lakh units per year.
The new assembly line at the Manesar facility is not only expected to contribute to the production of Maruti Suzuki’s popular models like the Ertiga but also accommodate the manufacturing of other vehicles in its lineup, including the Brezza, XL6, Ciaz, and WagonR. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki plans to leverage this enhanced capacity for producing shared products in collaboration with Toyota.
This development aligns with Maruti Suzuki’s ambitious plans to scale up its manufacturing capacity significantly in the coming years. The company aims to elevate its overall manufacturing capacity from the current 23.5 lakh units per year to an impressive 40 lakh units annually over the next 7 to 8 years.
The commencement of operations at the new assembly line marks a milestone for Maruti Suzuki, which recently achieved the remarkable feat of producing 3 crore units. Notably, a significant portion of this production milestone, totaling 95 lakh cars, was manufactured at the Manesar plant.
With the new assembly line already operational, Maruti Suzuki anticipates a positive impact on its production output, which could potentially help alleviate waiting periods for its popular models. This is particularly significant for shared products with Toyota, such as the Toyota Rumion, which currently faces waiting periods of up to 15 months.
Maruti Suzuki’s strategic expansion of manufacturing capabilities underscores its commitment to meeting the evolving demands of the Indian automotive market. By investing in enhancing production infrastructure and capacity, the company aims to fortify its position as a key player in the Indian automotive industry while ensuring timely delivery and customer satisfaction.
