Accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “lowering the dignity of the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) with hate speeches,” former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh has denied allegations that he ever favored a particular community for special treatment.

In a three-page appeal to the voters of Punjab on Thursday, Dr. Singh expressed his concerns over the nature of political discourse during the ongoing election campaign. “I have been keenly following the political discourse during this election campaign. Modi ji has indulged in the most vicious form of hate speeches, which are purely divisive in nature,” he stated.

Polling for the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab is scheduled for June 1, during the last phase of the general election. Dr. Singh’s appeal highlights his disapproval of the current Prime Minister’s approach, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the dignity and inclusivity of the PMO.

Dr. Singh’s comments come at a critical juncture in the election, aiming to influence the electorate in Punjab by urging them to reject divisive politics. His statements reflect a broader concern about the impact of hate speech on national unity and the political climate.

As the election draws near, the appeal from Dr. Singh adds a significant voice to the debate over the conduct and rhetoric of political leaders, urging voters to consider the long-term implications of their choices on the country’s democratic fabric and social harmony.
