Mamata Banerjee Calls for Governor’s Resignation Amidst Molestation Allegations

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took a strong stance against Governor CV Ananda Bose over recent allegations of molestation, demanding his resignation and declaring her refusal to enter the Raj Bhavan as long as he remains in office.

Addressing a rally in Saptagram, Banerjee challenged Bose to justify why he should not step down in light of the accusations against him. She criticized his response to the allegations, asserting that his assertion of authority (“dadagiri”) would no longer be tolerated.

Banerjee condemned the airing of CCTV footage from May 2, the day the temporary employee accused Bose of sexual assault, accusing him of attempting to manipulate public perception. She described the content of the footage as shocking and accused Bose of shameful conduct.

Expressing her solidarity with the victim, Banerjee announced her decision to boycott the Raj Bhavan until Bose’s tenure concludes, preferring to engage with him on the streets. The chief minister’s strong rebuke reflects her unwavering stance against misconduct and her commitment to upholding the dignity of women.

The allegations against Bose emerged on May 2 when a temporary employee accused him of molestation, prompting Kolkata Police to launch an inquiry. Bose’s subsequent directive to Raj Bhavan staff to disregard the police inquiry, citing constitutional immunity, has drawn criticism and further fueled the controversy.

As the situation unfolds, Mamata Banerjee’s vocal condemnation underscores the gravity of the issue and highlights the imperative for accountability and transparency in public office.
