West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stirred controversy during an election rally in Jalpaiguri, alleging that people shouted ‘chor chor’ (thief thief) at her car. Banerjee issued a fiery warning, stating she would have retaliated by pulling out their tongues if it weren’t for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing supporters in Mainaguri, Banerjee reaffirmed her opposition to the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Bengal, labeling the BJP as “anti-Bengali” and accusing them of planning to displace tribals, Dalits, and OBCs under the guise of the NRC.
Asserting the Trinamool Congress’s (TMC) stance against the BJP, Banerjee criticized INDIA bloc allies Congress and CPI(M), claiming they were collaborating with the BJP in Bengal. She emphasized the TMC’s pivotal role in safeguarding Bengal’s interests and urged voters to ensure the TMC’s victory in the state.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held election rallies in Balurghat and Raiganj, accusing the TMC of facilitating illegal immigration and jeopardizing Bengal’s demographic integrity by sheltering Rohingyas and Bangladeshis. He lambasted the TMC’s opposition to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and accused them of playing with Bengal’s future to bolster their vote bank.
