On Thursday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee clarified that her party, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), remains a part of the Opposition’s INDIA bloc. This statement followed her earlier comment suggesting that TMC would support the INDIA bloc from outside to form a government at the Centre. Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury had responded to her previous statement by claiming that Banerjee had “left the alliance and ran away.”
Speaking at an election rally in Haldia, Banerjee emphasized that while the TMC is part of the INDIA bloc in Delhi, there is no alliance between the Congress, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], and her party in West Bengal.
“Attempts by the Congress and CPI(M), fueled by BJP funds, to divide votes should be resisted. Do not vote for them here. I’ve made it clear that there’s no alliance in Bengal, but we are aligned in Delhi. We will remain so,” Mamata Banerjee stated during the rally.
This clarification underscores the TMC’s strategy of maintaining regional autonomy in Bengal while supporting the broader opposition coalition at the national level.
