Curtains came down on Thursday on the high-octane campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, which saw political parties weave often acrimonious narratives over issues ranging from caste, religion, reservation, and citizenship.
The seventh and last phase of voting will be held on Saturday (June 1) for 57 seats in eight states and union territories, including Varanasi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is seeking re-election for a third term. Among these seats, the BJP had won 25 in 2019. The poll process began on April 19, with the counting of votes scheduled for June 4.

The campaign was marked by intense debates and sharp rhetoric from all sides, reflecting the high stakes of this election. The two constants in the nearly two-month-long campaign were the searing heat and lower voter turnout compared to 2019. Voting is already over in 486 seats across 28 states and union territories. The turnout in the first six phases was 66.14%, 66.71%, 65.68%, 69.16%, 62.2%, and 63.36%, respectively.
As the nation prepares for the final phase of voting, all eyes are on the key constituencies and the impact of this heated campaign on the electoral outcomes. The results will be a decisive indicator of the political landscape for the coming years.
