Age of Political Leaders Sparks Debate Ahead of Lok Sabha Elections

As the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha election approaches, discussions around the age of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi have ignited a political discourse. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s remarks suggesting Narendra Modi’s impending retirement at 75 have fueled speculation, countered by BJP leaders affirming Modi’s completion of his term.

The BJP dismissed Kejriwal’s conjecture, asserting that there’s no stipulation in the party’s constitution barring Modi from continuing as Prime Minister after turning 75. However, the issue escalated as the Aam Aadmi Party referenced past instances where BJP leaders were sidelined upon reaching the age of 75, questioning if an exception would be made for Modi.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor weighed in, suggesting a new government could come into power before September 2025, indicating a potential shift in leadership dynamics. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Modi asserted that Congress would secure fewer than 53 seats in the election, emphasizing the age comparison with Rahul Gandhi.

The age debate underscores broader discussions on political longevity, succession planning, and party dynamics, adding another layer of complexity to the electoral narrative as parties vie for public support in the upcoming phases of the Lok Sabha elections.
