Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured their third IPL title with a commanding victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2024 final in Chennai on May 26. Chasing a modest target of 114, KKR’s batsmen made light work of the SRH bowling attack, reaching the target in just 10.3 overs with 57 balls to spare.
After the early loss of Sunil Narine for 6 runs, Venkatesh Iyer (52) and Rahmanullah Gurbaz (39) unleashed a barrage of aggressive strokes to put KKR on course for victory. The duo added 72 runs in the powerplay, effectively ending the contest in the first six overs. Venkatesh Iyer, in particular, was ruthless in his attack on the SRH bowlers.
Following Gurbaz’s dismissal, Shreyas Iyer joined Venkatesh Iyer at the crease and calmly guided KKR to victory. The KKR chase was clinical and comprehensive, highlighting their dominance throughout the tournament. The win marks KKR’s first IPL title since 2014 and caps off a stellar season under the leadership of their captain, Shreyas Iyer.
On the bowling front, KKR’s pacers set the tone early in the match, restricting SRH to just 113 runs. Led by their fast bowlers, KKR’s disciplined bowling attack dismantled the SRH batting lineup, ensuring there were no hiccups in their pursuit of the championship.
