Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge has written to President Droupadi Murmu, highlighting what he calls “gross injustice” to the country’s youths aspiring for regular employment in the armed forces due to the Agnipath scheme. In his letter, Kharge urges the President, who is also the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, to intervene and ensure justice for nearly 2 lakh young men and women affected by the government’s decision.
Kharge, in his letter shared on social media, emphasizes the uncertainty faced by the aspiring armed forces personnel due to the Agnipath scheme, expressing concern for their future. The Congress leader states that the party stands in solidarity with the youths in their fight for justice, highlighting their patriotism and bravery.
The letter, also shared by senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, outlines Kharge’s main purpose: to draw attention to the injustice inflicted on lakhs of youth whose dreams of joining the armed forces did not materialize despite government promises. He highlights the toll on their mental health, citing reported deaths by suicide linked to the resulting frustration and hopelessness.
Kharge’s appeal to President Murmu is clear: to ensure “NYAY” (justice) for the affected youth. The letter underscores the urgency of addressing the suffering of these aspiring armed forces personnel and calls for immediate action to prevent further distress within this community.
