A tragic suicide blast rocked Karachi on Friday, claiming the lives of at least two individuals in an attack targeting a vehicle transporting foreign nationals, as reported by broadcaster Geo News. While all five foreigners escaped unharmed, the suicide bomber and two assailants were killed in subsequent police gunfire.
The incident underscores the persistent threat of terrorism in Pakistan, with extremist groups aiming to destabilize the government and impose their rigid interpretation of Islamic law. Over recent years, such attacks, often brutal and deadly, have targeted both locals and foreigners, including Chinese nationals, according to Reuters.
Police spokesperson Abrar Hussain Baloch confirmed the suicide nature of the attack and revealed that a second terrorist involved in the encounter was also equipped as a suicide bomber, with explosives strapped to his body. The victims, identified as Noor Muhammad, Langar Khan, and Salman Rafiq, were rushed to Jinnah Hospital, where they received medical treatment for injuries sustained in the blast. Thankfully, no foreign nationals were harmed in the incident, although two security guards and a passerby remain in critical condition.
Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing ordeal, with one security guard recalling the moments of chaos as the assailants opened fire on the vehicle following the explosion. The attack prompted swift condemnation from Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, who reaffirmed the government’s unwavering stance against terrorism and called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
