In a significant development, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Jayant Sinha has formally requested the party president, J.P. Nadda, to relieve him from direct electoral duties in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Sinha, who represents Hazaribagh in Jharkhand, took to the social media platform X to make the announcement, joining the ranks of party leaders opting out of contesting in the upcoming polls.
In his social media post, Sinha expressed his intent to continue working with the party on economic and governance issues. He highlighted his desire to focus efforts on combating global climate change both in India and around the world. Sinha, a former union minister, conveyed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and the BJP leadership for the opportunities provided during his ten years of serving the people of Bharat and Hazaribagh.
This move by Jayant Sinha follows a trend within the BJP, where several leaders, including sitting MPs, have expressed their preference for organizational work over direct electoral responsibilities. The party is reportedly considering fielding new leaders for the upcoming elections.
Earlier on the same day, East Delhi MP Gautam Gambhir also made a similar request to be relieved from political duties, citing his commitment to upcoming cricket responsibilities. As the BJP undergoes strategic shifts in candidate selection, Sinha’s decision reflects a broader trend within the party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
