In a forceful response to debt-ridden Pakistan’s recent raising of the Jammu and Kashmir issue at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), India asserted that it cannot pay attention to a country immersed in red due to the bloodshed from global terrorism it sponsors. First Secretary Anupama Singh, representing India at the 55th regular session of the UNHRC in Geneva on February 28, exercised India’s Right of Reply, responding to references made by Turkiye and Pakistan.
India expressed regret over Turkiye’s comments on an internal matter and urged them to refrain from making unsolicited remarks on India’s internal affairs. In a stern rebuke to Pakistan, India emphasized its unwillingness to engage further with a nation “soaked in red” – a reference to the bloodshed caused by terrorism sponsored globally by Pakistan.
The Indian representative highlighted Pakistan’s precarious national balance sheets, marked by extensive debt, and criticized its government’s failure to serve the actual interests of its people. India also condemned Pakistan for hosting and celebrating UN Security Council-sanctioned terrorists, pointing out the stark contrast with India’s pluralistic ethos and democratic credentials.
Refuting Pakistan’s “patently false allegations” against India at the UNHRC, Anupama Singh underscored the unfortunate misuse of the Council’s platform. She expressed India’s constraints in responding to Pakistan’s extensive references and called attention to the apparent contradiction of a country with documented ties to terrorists making baseless claims against India.
The strong retort highlights the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, particularly concerning the Kashmir issue, and showcases India’s commitment to defending its internal affairs and challenging unwarranted accusations on the international stage.
