India and Pakistan Advise Students to Stay Indoors Amid Violence in Bishkek

India and Pakistan on Saturday advised students in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, to stay indoors as mob violence targeting international students erupted in the capital city. Although the Embassy of India in Kyrgyzstan stated that the “situation is presently calm,” Pakistan’s mission reported that several hostels of medical universities housing students from India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan had been attacked during the violence.

In response to the incident, the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry mentioned that law enforcement agencies swiftly took action to detain individuals involved in the event, including both foreign nationals and Kyrgyz citizens. They assured that the situation is “completely under the control of law enforcement agencies” and confirmed that “there are no seriously injured people among the participants of the incident.”

The embassies’ advisories and the Foreign Ministry’s statements aim to reassure concerned families and students amid the unrest.
