ICC Suspends Sri Lanka Captain Wanindu Hasaranga for Two Matches

The ICC has imposed sanctions on Sri Lanka captain Wanindu Hasaranga and Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz for breaches of its Code of Conduct during the third T20I match in Dambulla.

Wanindu Hasaranga has been suspended for two matches after accumulating a total of five demerit points within a 24-month period, including his latest breach. He was fined 50% of his match fee and received three demerit points for criticizing an umpire’s decision during the match. Hasaranga’s suspension will affect his participation in Sri Lanka’s first two T20Is against Bangladesh next month.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz received a 15% fine on his match fee for his breach of the Code of Conduct during the same match.

The incident involving Hasaranga occurred towards the end of the third T20I when he criticized an umpire’s decision regarding a full toss delivery not being called a no-ball. This resulted in a breach of Article 2.13 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which pertains to personal abuse of individuals during an international match.

Hasaranga’s accumulation of five demerit points converts to two suspension points, leading to his two-match suspension.
