After experiencing heavy pre-monsoon rainfall, fishermen in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu have been advised not to venture into the sea. For the 10th consecutive day, fishermen in Thoothukudi district have kept their country boats anchored, awaiting a return to normalcy. VOC Port authorities have hoisted warning signals to caution ships and other stakeholders about the prevailing weather conditions due to Cyclone Refal.

On Sunday, Thoothukudi saw minimal rainfall, although the sky remained overcast during the forenoon. The latter part of the day turned sunny with clear skies, offering a brief respite from the gloomy weather.

In Kanniyakumari district, sharp showers were experienced in some areas. Over the past two to three days, many reservoirs in the district have seen a significant rise in their storage levels.

On Sunday, the Perunchani dam recorded water levels at 58 feet, with a maximum capacity of 77 feet and an inflow of 841 cusecs. Public Works Department (PWD) officials reported that Kuzhithurai received 45 mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours ending at 6 a.m. The Pechiparai dam recorded a water level of 45.37 feet, with an inflow of 1320 cusecs and a discharge of 2200 cusecs.

The ongoing Cyclone Refal and associated weather conditions have significantly impacted the local fishing communities and daily activities. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure safety and provide updates as needed.
