Delhi Police Bolsters Security at Borders Amid Farmers’ Protest

Delhi Police has intensified security measures at the Tikri, Singhu, and Ghazipur borders in anticipation of potential disruptions due to the farmers’ protest on March 6. While affirming that no borders or routes will be closed, police officers stated that thorough vehicle checks will be conducted. Heavy traffic congestion was reported at the Singhu border as farmers began to gather in the morning, prompting concerns for commuters.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Jimmy Chiram assured that adequate force is deployed at the Delhi-Haryana border to monitor the situation closely following the farmers’ call for action. Additionally, barriers for commuters at the Singhu and Tikri borders were temporarily removed, but police and paramilitary personnel remain on vigilant duty to ensure round-the-clock security.

Enhanced security measures extend to railway and metro stations, as well as bus stands, with additional police and paramilitary forces deployed. Section 144 has been imposed in Delhi to prevent any unlawful gatherings or assemblies. Security arrangements have been reinforced at prominent locations such as ISBT Kashmere Gate, Anand Vihar, and Sarai Kale Khan to maintain law and order.

The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and the Samyukta Kisan Morcha have urged farmers nationwide to converge on Delhi on March 6, with plans for a four-hour ‘rail roko’ agitation on March 10 to advocate for various demands, including a legal guarantee of minimum support prices for crops. As tensions persist, authorities remain vigilant to ensure public safety and prevent any breach of law.
