Delhi High Court Bids Farewell to Distinguished Judges, Welcomes New Chapter

The Delhi High Court bid farewell to two esteemed judges, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva and Justice V Kameswar Rao, as they embark on new chapters in their judicial careers, transferring to high courts in Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, respectively.

Addressing the farewell reference, Acting Chief Justice Manmohan lauded the exemplary contributions of both judges, highlighting their pivotal roles in shaping various aspects of law during their tenure. Elevated from the Bar in 2013, Justices Sachdeva and Rao have left an indelible mark on the legal landscape.

The recent notification from the central government formalized the transfer of these esteemed judges, following the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium on March 15. While their departure leaves a void at the Delhi High Court, it enriches the legal fabric of Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.

With the departure of Justices Sachdeva and Rao, the Delhi High Court’s judicial strength now stands at 40 judges, underscoring the need for timely appointments to maintain operational efficiency.

The farewell event witnessed a gathering of esteemed dignitaries, including former Supreme Court judge Justice AK Sikri, along with the esteemed judges’ families and legal fraternity. Justices Sachdeva and Rao, in their reflections, emphasized the diversity and vibrancy of the Delhi High Court’s Bar and Bench, underscoring its pivotal role in the country’s legal ecosystem.

Reflecting on their tenure, Justice Sachdeva highlighted the court’s pioneering efforts in digitalization, emphasizing its resilience during challenging times. Meanwhile, Justice Rao commended the invaluable role of the Bar in shaping his judicial perspective, leaving the court as a more enlightened individual.

As Justice Sachdeva and Justice Rao embark on new chapters, their legacy of integrity and commitment to justice will continue to inspire generations of legal practitioners. Their notable judgments, including those concerning welfare initiatives for differently-abled citizens and equitable treatment for contractual nurses, underscore their unwavering dedication to upholding the principles of justice and equity.
