Indian Coast Guard Coordinates Efforts as Cyclone Remal Nears West Bengal and Bangladesh Coasts
Coordination efforts are underway with state administrations and stakeholders to facilitate a synchronized response to potential contingencies arising from the cyclonic storm, the Indian Coast Guard said in a statement.
Cyclonic storm “Remal”, originating in the central Bay of Bengal, is expected to escalate into a severe cyclonic storm by May 25. According to the latest input from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), it is very likely to cross the Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts between Sagar Island and Khepupara around midnight on May 26 as a severe cyclonic storm.
The Indian Coast Guard stated on May 24 that the cyclone is likely to make landfall at North/North-West Bay of Bengal near the West Bengal Coast on the night of May 26. The situation is being actively monitored, and comprehensive preemptive measures to ensure minimal loss of life and property at sea have been initiated.
As Cyclone Remal approaches, the Indian Coast Guard’s proactive steps and coordination with local authorities are crucial in mitigating the storm’s impact and safeguarding the affected regions.
