China Unveils Rifle-Armed Robot Dog at Joint Military Exercise with Cambodia

During the ongoing “Golden Dragon 2024” joint military exercise with Cambodia, China showcased a rifle-armed robot dog, reported CNN. The combat-ready robot dog was highlighted in a video shared on YouTube by the China-backed CCTV Video News Agency. This demonstration is part of a broader display of “intelligent unmanned equipment,” including cargo and reconnaissance drones.

The CCTV video shows the robot dog performing various maneuvers such as walking, hopping, lying down, and moving backwards, all controlled by a remote operator. The robot dog, weighing 15 kilograms, features a 4D wide-angle perception system. According to a Chinese soldier, Chen Wei, this robotic canine can serve in urban combat operations, conducting reconnaissance and identifying and striking targets, potentially replacing human soldiers in dangerous scenarios.

Equipped with batteries and a power system in its abdomen, the robot dog can operate for two to four hours. In the video, the rifle-armed robot dog is seen leading an infantry unit into a simulated building, demonstrating its potential role in future combat situations.

The “Golden Dragon 2024” exercise involves 1,315 Cambodian military personnel and 760 Chinese soldiers.
