BJP Extends J.P. Nadda’s Term as Party President Until June 2024

In a significant development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has extended the term of its president, J.P. Nadda, until June 2024. The decision, a key outcome of the BJP’s national executive meet, was formally announced by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on the final day of the two-day meeting held in New Delhi. The move puts to rest speculation about Nadda’s leadership, especially following the BJP’s loss in Himachal Pradesh, his home state.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tabled the proposal for Nadda’s term extension during the national executive meet, and it received the endorsement of the approximately 350 delegates in attendance. Shah praised Nadda, emphasizing that the extension was not unprecedented, citing his own extension before the 2019 polls. He also highlighted the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, which hindered internal organizational polls and membership drives.

Shah expressed confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the organizational skills of Nadda, asserting that the BJP, with this combination, is well-positioned to secure a larger mandate in the 2024 General Elections compared to 2019. The decision reflects the party’s commitment to continuity and stability in leadership as it prepares for the upcoming elections.
