In a surprising political move, Hisar Member of Parliament (MP) Brijendra Singh announced his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on March 10, citing compelling political reasons. Singh has now joined the Congress party, marking a significant shift in his political allegiance.
Expressing gratitude in his parting note, Singh acknowledged BJP leaders such as JP Nadda, Narendra Modi, and Amit Shah for providing him the opportunity to serve as an MP. Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Ajay Maken, Mukul Wasnik, and Deepak Babaria warmly welcomed his decision to switch sides.
Brijendra Singh has a distinguished background, having served as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer for 21 years before opting for voluntary retirement. He secured the ninth position in the Civil Services Examination in 1998. Hailing from Jind, Haryana, Singh holds a master’s degree in modern history from JNU. His father, Birender Singh, was a former union minister, and his grandfather, Chhotu Ram, is revered as a Jat icon.
Despite facing allegations of nepotism, Singh asserted that he carved his own path in politics. Notably, he emerged victorious in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, defeating candidates from the JJP and the Congress. Singh publicly supported wrestlers protesting against BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh over harassment allegations, showcasing his independent stance within the political landscape.
