Authorities in Bengaluru are investigating a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) blast that occurred at The Rameshwaram Cafe in Brookefield on March 1, 2024. The explosion left nine people injured, raising concerns about security in the area.
Initially mistaken for a cylinder blast, fire department officials later dismissed this assumption. The explosion, occurring around 1:09 p.m., prompted a swift response from authorities and emergency services.
Preliminary investigations suggest that a person entered the café around noon carrying a bag. After making a payment to the cashier and receiving a token, the individual had breakfast and left the bag behind, purportedly containing the explosive device. Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage and interrogating witnesses to gather more details.
In response to the incident, senior officials including DG&IGP Alok Mohan and representatives from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) rushed to the scene. Despite the blast, authorities have assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to anyone’s life.
The explosion at The Rameshwaram Cafe underscores the importance of enhancing security measures in public spaces to prevent such incidents in the future. Investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the blast and apprehend those responsible for the attack.
