The Bengali community in the city came together to celebrate their New Year, Poila Baisakh, with vibrant cultural festivities and traditional fervor. Members of the East Coast Railway Kalibari initiated the celebrations with a ‘Prabhat Pheri’ early in the morning at RK Beach Road, adding a touch of nostalgia and camaraderie to the occasion.
Dressed in resplendent traditional attire, participants adorned the Beach Road, serenading the morning with melodious Bengali songs, many of which were penned by the legendary Rabindranath Tagore. The rhythmic beats and soulful melodies resonated along the coastline, creating an enchanting ambiance for all to relish.
Later in the day, the festivities continued at the Kalibari, where the evening was adorned with puja rituals and cultural performances. Attendees immersed themselves in the rich cultural heritage of Bengal, embracing the essence of Poila Baisakh with reverence and joy.
As a gesture of appreciation and recognition, a select few prominent members from the Bengali community were felicitated during the event. B.C. Burman and Prantik Mukherjee of Kalibari expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming participation and enthusiasm exhibited by everyone involved.
