Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar Found Dead in Kolkata: Investigation Underway

Kolkata Police’s forensic team has collected samples from a car found at the crime scene where Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar was discovered dead. Anar, a 56-year-old member of the ruling Awami League party, recently won his third consecutive term representing Jhenaidah border district. He was found dead in Kolkata, West Bengal, on Wednesday.

Anar entered India on May 12 for a medical check-up and was last seen on May 13 in Bidhannagar, near Kolkata. Concerns were raised when his daughter was unable to contact him, leading to a missing person’s complaint filed at Baranagar Police Station. On May 18, Gopal Biswas, an acquaintance of Anar, reported his disappearance after receiving suspicious messages from Anar’s phone indicating he was moving to Delhi.

The West Bengal police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and are working with the CID on the case. Video footage from the housing complex where Anar was staying has been secured, and blood stains were found during the investigation. A senior police officer suggested possible links between the assailants and terror outfits.

The Ministry of External Affairs has urged the West Bengal government to expedite the investigation. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her condolences and profound grief over Anar’s death. Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan alleged that the MP was killed in a planned murder in Kolkata and announced that Bangladesh Police had arrested three individuals in connection with the case.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to uncover the truth behind Anar’s death. The case highlights the need for international cooperation and thorough investigative processes to ensure justice is served.
