AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal has claimed significant weight loss and a possible serious illness during his time in Tihar Jail. He made an emotional appeal on Friday, asking people to take care of his ailing parents as he prepares to return to jail on Sunday. This comes as a Delhi court is set to hear his interim bail petition today.
Kejriwal, also the Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convener, was released on May 10 after the Supreme Court granted him interim bail until June 1 to campaign for the Lok Sabha election. The BJP, however, has questioned his involvement in campaign activities despite his health claims. “If Kejriwal was so sick, why did he engage in campaigning?” the BJP asked.
Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy for 2021-22. The ED, which has booked him under various provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, has claimed that he is the “kingpin” of the alleged scam. He was shifted to Tihar Jail on April 1.
The court’s decision on his interim bail extension is awaited as Kejriwal’s health and political activities remain under scrutiny.
