Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has denied making any calls to the Pune Police commissioner regarding the Porsche accident case that resulted in the deaths of two software engineers, Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar on May 19. Pawar clarified his position during a press interaction, stating, “I often call the commissioner of police over multiple issues, but I haven’t made a single call to him in this case,” as reported by PTI.
Pawar also defended his party’s MLA Sunil Tingre, who is accused of intervening to ensure favorable treatment for the teenager allegedly responsible for the accident. “Sunil Tingre is an MLA of the area where the incident took place. Whenever such incidents happen, the local MLA often visits the site. Did Sunil Tingre try to suppress the matter? The allegations against him are baseless,” Pawar asserted.
The tragic incident involved a Porsche driven by a reportedly drunk teenager, leading to the deaths of Awadhiya and Koshta. In response to the accident, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis, who heads the home department, instructed the Pune police to conduct a thorough investigation. “Even the chief minister (Eknath Shinde) has given the right instructions. Action was taken against those police officials who initially delayed the procedure. Those from Sassoon General Hospital who were involved in the case have also faced police action,” Pawar added.
The teenager involved in the accident is currently in an observation home until June 5. His father, Vishal Agarwal, and grandfather, Surendra Agarwal, have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping the family’s driver and coercing him to take the blame for the incident. Two doctors and a staffer from Sassoon General Hospital were also arrested for allegedly swapping the minor’s blood samples with those of his mother to falsely indicate that he was not drunk at the time of the accident.
On Saturday, Pune Police arrested the teenager’s mother after investigations confirmed that the juvenile’s blood samples were indeed swapped with those of his mother. Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar stated that the accident investigation revealed this critical evidence, further complicating the case.
As the investigation progresses, the Pune police continue to uncover more details surrounding the incident, ensuring that all individuals involved are held accountable.
