Leader of the Opposition and AIADMK general secretary, Edappadi K. Palaniswami, launched a scathing attack on the DMK on Sunday, alleging that the party accepted donations in the form of electoral bonds from Future Gaming and Hotel Services Pvt. Ltd., a company previously involved in the lottery trade.
Palaniswami criticized the DMK, accusing them of hypocrisy for purportedly accepting funds from a “gambling company” while purportedly championing legislation against online gaming. He described it as a “shameful” act and warned that the people would express their discontent in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
Taking to social media, Palaniswami highlighted revelations that the DMK received approximately ₹509 crore through electoral bonds from Future Gaming, emphasizing the company’s involvement in the lottery and gambling sectors. He underscored the AIADMK’s stance against such activities, noting previous governmental measures to ban lucky draws and lottery tickets under the leadership of M.G. Ramachandran and Jayalalithaa, respectively.
Palaniswami further pointed out his government’s efforts to ban online gaming, albeit facing legal challenges. He condemned the DMK’s acceptance of funds from a gambling entity, suggesting it contradicted their purported stance against online gaming and their introduction of legislation on the matter.
The accusations by Palaniswami add fuel to the ongoing political rivalry between the AIADMK and the DMK, setting the stage for heightened tensions as the Lok Sabha election approaches.
