Last July, Aditya Ganguly embarked on a transformative journey when he visited teamLab Planets in Toyosu, an immersive space blending museum, art installation, and amusement park elements on Tokyo Bay. This experience ignited a spark within him, prompting him to envision a similar interactive experience accessible to a broader audience through a headset.
Recalling his visit to teamLab Planets, the 28-year-old Ganguly reminisced about the palpable energy in the room, setting in motion his quest to translate that experience into a digital platform. Determined to delve into the concept further, he embarked on a journey to understand how to replicate and share such captivating experiences with more people.
Months later, Ganguly seized an opportunity to pitch his idea to Apple executives in Singapore. This encounter marked the genesis of Mahou (pronounced maa-ho), an app centered around magic, art, and immersive experiences. Debuting on the Vision Pro in February, Mahou stands as a testament to Ganguly’s vision, becoming one of the few Indian applications to seamlessly integrate with Apple’s mixed-reality headset.
Hailing from Delhi, Ganguly’s passion for technology and his background in psychology converged as he sought to create user-centric experiences. His previous work with the United Nations involved developing story-based gamified interactions addressing adolescent sexual well-being, showcasing his commitment to leveraging technology for social impact.
Ganguly’s journey into the realm of virtual reality began when he collaborated with a Netherlands-based company specializing in digital interactions for museums. This experience opened his eyes to the potential of virtual reality, laying the foundation for his future endeavors.
Subsequently, Ganguly ventured into entrepreneurship, founding Brevity, a media company focused on summarizing nonfiction content. He later joined Simulanis, an AR/VR company, where he honed his skills in sales, marketing, and immersive product development. His tenure at Zupee as a product manager further enriched his expertise before he founded Omoi Studio, dedicated to crafting innovative applications.
Aditya Ganguly’s journey exemplifies the fusion of passion, creativity, and technological innovation, culminating in the development of Mahou and his commitment to reshaping the digital landscape.
