Commissioner of Health & Family Welfare, S. Venkateswar, on Sunday, directed the Director of Public Health & Family Welfare, K. Padmavathi, to take action against medical officers of Primary Health Centres (PHCs) where no institutional deliveries have been recorded in the past five years.
According to an official release, Mr. Venkateswar took serious note of the fact that several PHCs, especially in tribal areas, have had ‘zero deliveries’ over extended periods. This situation is deemed unacceptable, as institutional deliveries are crucial for ensuring maternal and infant health.
Mr. Venkateswar emphasized the need for immediate corrective measures to address this issue and improve healthcare services in these regions. The lack of institutional deliveries indicates potential gaps in healthcare access and service delivery, which must be rectified to ensure better health outcomes for the tribal populations.
The directive aims to enhance the performance of PHCs and ensure that they effectively serve their intended purpose of providing essential health services, particularly to vulnerable communities. The Commissioner stressed the importance of holding medical officers accountable and implementing necessary changes to improve the functioning of these health centers.
This action underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that all citizens, regardless of their location, have access to quality medical care.
