AAP MP Sanjay Singh Reflects on Tihar Jail Experience, Emphasizes Resilience and Reading Amid Adversity

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh, recently granted bail in the Delhi excise policy case, shared insights into his time spent in Tihar Jail, highlighting challenges and personal growth during his confinement. Singh, arrested on October 4 last year and released nearly six months later, recounted initial difficulties, including confinement to a small cell and limited outdoor access, during an interview with news agency PTI.

Singh detailed efforts to secure rights akin to other prisoners, eventually gaining permission for scheduled outings under police supervision to areas like the music room and badminton court. Despite constraints, Singh utilized his time to immerse himself in reading, delving into works by iconic figures such as Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, and Bhagat Singh, surpassing his cumulative reading in six months compared to prior years.

Reflecting on his resilience and fortitude, Singh asserted determination in continuing his advocacy, underscoring the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity. He acknowledged the emotional toll on his family, expressing a commitment to maintaining positivity during their interactions, cognizant of surveillance during video conferences.

Singh’s bail was granted by the Supreme Court while he was undergoing treatment at ILBS hospital. His arrest by the Enforcement Directorate last year marked a significant development in the Delhi excise policy case, with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal subsequently arrested, becoming the first sitting chief minister to face such charges.
