A man was apprehended for theft of mobile phones at Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura Railway Station, following numerous complaints from passengers. His modus operandi involved feigning sleep in the passenger waiting room, then opportunistically stealing from unsuspecting victims.
According to Government Railway Police (GRP) inspector Sandeep Tomar, the arrest came after a passenger reported the loss of a mobile phone at the platform of Mathura railway station. Subsequently, GRP Mathura reviewed CCTV footage, which revealed the perpetrator’s actions.
In the released CCTV footage, the man can be seen entering the passenger waiting room and blending in with other individuals already present. Pretending to sleep, he strategically targets sleeping passengers, surreptitiously reaching into their pockets to pilfer their mobile phones. Upon successful theft, he discreetly pockets the stolen device before departing the scene.
Inspector Tomar confirmed the arrest of the suspect after identifying him through the CCTV footage. The arrest highlights the importance of surveillance technology in aiding law enforcement agencies in apprehending criminals and ensuring passenger safety at railway stations.
